The Eiffel Tower celebrates its 130th Birthday on the 15th of May 2019 !!
It is hard to believe that it has already been 130 years since the Eiffel Tower became the emblem of Paris… Well not quite! Indeed, after the universal exhibition, it was supposed to be taken down and it wasn’t really loved by Parisians.
Through time, it became an icon and symbol of our beautiful city and since 1963, the number of visitors never stopped to increase. In 1963 it was well over 2 millions people that reach its summit but in 2017, it was more than 6 millions. A total of 300 millions people climbed its stairs or rode the elevators since its inauguration…
To celebrate this, the city of Paris organises a celebration on the 15th of May. It will start in the afternoon with visits for children but then at 8.30pm, the artist Jeanne Added will give a free concert for about one hour. And to close the day, from 10pm until about 1am, it will be a light and sound show that will give life to the Eiffel Tower for 10mins, on repeat to ensure everyone gets a chance to see it 🙂
