Exhibition Basquiat & Egon Schiele at the Fondation Louis Vuitton
Since the beginning of October and until mid-January, the Foundation Louis Vuitton offers two unique exhibitions about two incredible artists whose creative universes were highly prolific as they both managed to create an incredibly large collection of pieces in just about a decade. Even though they are both from opposite end of the century, they were both rebellious through their art and they both changed a generation in their hometowns.
First of all there is Egon Schiele, a contemporary of Paul Klee and disciple of Gustave Klimt, who managed to stand out through his provocative paintings and often erotic scenes in a conservative Vienna where the tensions of the pre-war were started to be felt. Through this chronological exhibition of the short but intense career of the artist, you will be able to discover self-portraits and representations of men and women with intense expressions and an incredible realism.
On the other hand, you will be able to discover the New Yorker genius of the end of the century: Jean-Michel Basquiat! A UFO of his generation in New York, Basquiat managed to impose his style as a new genre and to be recognized as a striking artist in the middle of this social and identity crisis. His paintings are often highly engaged politically and socially with an afro-american man at their center, like a new hero.
